The Brain and Meditation

Writing by bwerner on Friday, 28 of March , 2008 at 10:47 am

The brain is essential to human life, and when the brain dies, the entire physical body dies along with it. Even under deep sleep, the brain is active and aware, and able to direct functions as and when necessary. For example, the brain may create a fearful dream to wake you up if your body is threatened by danger, such as read more

SOUL, what is it?

Writing by bwerner on Monday, 24 of March , 2008 at 4:04 pm

I think erveryone has asked his self once what is a soul, where reside it and so on, well here is a (Definition of the word)

Study in the Netherlands on Soul

The Spirit creates by Words that what gets manifest through the Sound = language

We recall engraved, that the Italian word ANIMA (Soul) derives from the ancient compounded sound: ANI + MA; these 2 roots / words / sounds, meaning in ancient Phoenician-Hebrew: ANI = ME (being) and MA = MAteria Matriciale = Energy, the thinking MAteria.
ANI, which translated from the ancient Phoenician and Hebrew means “ME/SELF or Ego”; also these 3 letters ANI indicate essential functions: to Unite, Transforming, Concentrating, if we look at this letter by letter word, we get more useful and important information: ALEF, the first character of those alphabets, expresses the idea of abstract principle of a thing; describes the point of view; characterizing unity, strength, stability, continuity, the Universal man, mankind, the transforming Being of the manifestation.
Regarding the Hebrew term Nephesh = PSYCHE; the word Nephesh has several meanings, including Anima. Typically it is used to indicate: “living being”, “living animal”, “Life” (both human and animal, with the physical body).
The NUN, which is the design of 1 / 2 fish as the original Egyptian hieroglyph for that sound designed a fish, representing the son of Humanity, the man (male and female), the material part of Being / Ego / SELF, the physical body individualized and produced and introduced into the depths of the matter but that can reascend to the surface of it, through the spirit (InFormAtion) to understand the whole manifestation and the InFinite.
The IOD represents every manifested power, the hand of man, his finger indicator (index), the potential manifestation, the intellectual duration and this of the Eternity.
The double root Ani + Ma (in Italian sound) became with time the word soul and intends to describe the significance of living being made of spirit without the physical, losing its original meaning of the root Ma, which is the root of the word MA-teria, Mater, Mother, Sea (Mare in Italian/Latin), etc..Someone says (traditionally) that this word comes from the feminine form of the Indo-European-root “ane” suffix (ane-mo); the root indicates the “breathe”, this meaning is also in the roots of the word spirit, of Germanic words: ghost, geist; Slave: duh, dusa, the Greek word pneuma, and of the Egyptian ka and also from the Hebrew of ruah. However from any language or combination of languages, it may come, the meaning does not change, it is always a breath of a being who lives and which is composed of matter (physical body) and spirit (thinking - conscience - of being) of His Ego / SELF, who lives in a physical body. The soul and what Lives, the Living: plant, animal human.

We have NOT a soul, WE ARE a soul, with different bodies (physical and / or plasma) depending on where we need and / or want to go!

So the word Soul simply means the Ego / Self materialized in a physical body, it indicates also that the soul can not be and therefore live divided from a physical body, it is alive and evidenziabile only when it has a physical body, which can be done now like ours, or be supported with other types of physical bodies: plasmas of electronics power, and / or water, and / or gas, and / or solid, but still the in-form-ation and / or thinking, it can not exist without a physical support! But the In - Form-Ation is ‘de facto always contained in the electromagnetic field of Atoms that makes us up, but especially in the (CEM) of the atom that we are and which is in phase of continuous in-form-ation, to be more and more informed and complex (negative entropy = neghentropia).

To add more data to these concepts:

We define the soul of every man, as an all together of the programs and information that are in his mind that “lives” in his brains (especially that of above), which define and identify him.
The difference, compared to electronics, is that in biological systems the software is able to construct and modify the hardware, but apart from this important detail, for the remaining the speech is very similar.

So the being that we are has in the first place a “body” of in-form-ation supported by the “energetic-body of Atoms”, and therefore a body of energy (vortex of space / time on the move) that for in - form itself penetrates / travel the space / time with ever more ‘complexity’ and appears finally to our level with bodies made of the substance (solid, gaseous, liquid, plasma) with the physiognomy of human or animal.

The “spirit” is matters that informs and tents and become plasma, gaseous, liquid, solid, and the mater-ia, by information tends to become Spirit; these two sides of the same coin are only two aspects / functions “of a SINGLE thing ….. The Project of Life: … Eternal Life (Infinite) to which ALL living beings stick and join and live, willing or not ….. and perhaps without knowing it ….. suffering needlessly …

    China and Tibet!

Writing by bwerner on Sunday, 16 of March , 2008 at 8:18 am

Do you’ve heard about what happens in Tibet,? It is a shame that the world permits something like that….. Tibet in my humble meaning is the most peaceful place in the world.

Humans are looking at that what happens under the name of the games of peace (the Olympics) and participate even without any hesitation. That games have to be boycotted, only so is it possible to stop China by inflicting them an economically damage to a country that doesn’t respects any human rights. I’m writing here on my blog about all the noble teachings I’ve received in Tibet, hopefully to contribute to make this world become, little by little ,a better place and they destroy the only place in the world where since ever where formulated the gems of human thinking.

My heart is crying by the idea of a world that will seemingly never learn to live in peace.

    What is Energy Healing

Writing by bwerner on Tuesday, 11 of March , 2008 at 6:54 pm

Though there are varying approaches, energy therapies are typically based on the premise that–on a fundamental level–everything in the universe is made of energy. From this perspective, human beings are also fundamentally energy.
Around the world, from ancient times to modern day, techniques have developed which focus on healing at this energy level. While many energy therapies make no claim of scientific verification, there can be some curious parallels with quantum physics
and un-proven, developing fields, like string theory.

Energy in spirituality, refers to a widespread belief in an interpersonal, non-physical force or essence. Vitalism is a general term for a force that animates living things. Believers consider spiritual energy to be of a different type than those known to science.

You have probably come across exotic-sounding terms such as “chakra”, “prana”, “aura”, and “tantra” in your course of reading books on spirituality, sex, and healing in the New Age literature section of the bookstore. But what’s the real scoop behind these exotic vocabularies?

Are All Energy Healings the Same?

Chakra or energy center is a term used in Pranic healing, an ancient Hindu system of energy healing. “Prana” means life energy. “Aura” is another terminology traced to Pranic healing. Aura is a non-physical body that consists of energy, which exists along with our physical body. The aura that covers our body is said to have seven layers pertaining to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual as manifested by energy. Studying the color and thickness of auras give ideas on the state of health of individuals. Six colors are associated with aura and interpreted into six personalities. These colors are all present in an individual but one or two are more pronounced.

    Green    -   ambitious achiever
    Blue       -   spiritual peacemaker
    White    -   unconventional chameleon
    Red       -   activist
    Orange -   creative communicator
    Violet    -   psychic

In New Age belief, Aura refers to the energy field emanating from the surface of a person or object. This emanation is visualized as an outline of cascading color and may be held to represent soul vibrations, chakric emergence, or a reflection of surrounding energy fields. Auras may be viewed by the naked eye, though some psychics, like Edgar Cayce, believe this ability weakens with age. Focused training may improve one’s ability to see auras. Layers of aura are separate and distinct yet connected to all the remaining layers. In the books of Carlos Castaneda auras are referred to as luminous cocoons.

Although Tantra is popularly associated with the peculiar practice of sex and spirituality, it is another method of energy healing. It comes from the word “tan” which means to spread or expand. The concept of connectedness is a recurring theme in Tantric writings on sex and spirituality. As a method of healing, spirituality and sex figure prominently. It is presupposed that the union of man and woman can reach spiritual levels during orgasm, which removes the body and mind off collected impurities. These impurities being negative energies can in turn manifest as physical illnesses.

Unlike Pranic and Tantric healings, which have Hindu origins, Reiki originated from Japan. It is relatively younger than Pranic and Tantric healings having been rediscovered in the early 1900’s. Reiki stands for universal energy, an energy brought forth by higher intelligence. Students of Reiki are taught how to tap this energy to heal physical, emotional, and mental illnesses.

Although Pranic, Tantra, and Reiki are all systems of energy healing, they differ in the type of energy tapped for healing: life energy, sexual energy, and universal energy respectively.

The concepts of the connectedness of mind, body, and spirit; the connection of individuals to all living and nonliving things around them and to the universe; and how energy impacts physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being are some of the salient similarities of these three healing methods.

Why Do People Turn to Energy Healing?

Pranic, Tantric, and Reiki are considered alternative methods of healing. In spite of the availability and relative accessibility of modern medicine, how come more and more people are being drawned to them? Here are some possible reasons:

    · Energy healing worked where modern medicine failed.

For several reasons both explainable and unexplainable, modern medical treatment failed to heal ailments and conditions in several if not many persons. Research or data may not be able to support this statement. But for the families of the dying as well as for the dying patient, they would take the risk of using alternative methods ranging from herbals and organics, faith healers, witch doctors, and New Age healing techniques just to be get well.

    · People perceive modern medicine to be isolating.

Medical treatments are oftentimes focused on the disease and its causative agent, which can make a patient feel isolated and treated like a mere host of the disease. Although recent developments in hospital practice are gradually promoting the holistic treatment of a patient, the perception still persists. Unlike in energy healing, since energy and spirituality are intimately linked, the patient feels that all aspects of his health are being attended to.

.  Energy healing is non-obtrusive and natural thus it is safer.

Repeated surgical procedures are physically and emotionally traumatic for most patients. It is but a logical and attractive option to both patient and families to look for less stressful health interventions. Moreover, with the rising popularity of New Age religions, going natural is the way to go.

    · Energy healing is a good way of relieving stress.

Meditation is part and parcel of energy healing methods and this is an added come-on for highly stressed people. Moreover, sophisticated equipment is not required thus it becomes all the more convenient for students and future students of energy healing.

The battle between alternative healing and mainstream medicine continues as both present the benefits of their approach. But in the final analysis, what matters is the restoration of good health.

Soon I’ll post some articles that go more inside this subject.

Does Humans have an Energy Field?

Writing by bwerner on Friday, 7 of March , 2008 at 3:56 pm

    Aura or Alone
Life should be considered as an excitatory phenomenon.
We’re not common peaces of clay, but a substance in which were infused spirit, or if you like - which has been charged with energy.
As more excited we are that more goes our level of energy up, if we are depressed our energy level falls down. When we go to be very excited we are illuminated and, we emit light and we are brilliant.
These excitatory phenomena, like the sexual excitement, are energetically processes.
Our illumination or brightness is visible! I my self and others too have seen that.
There’s an energetic field around the human body, described in different ways like aura or alone. This has been observed and studied from many persons like Alessander Lowen (Depression and the Body) and especially from Dr. John C. Pierrakes (”The Energy Field of Man” Energy and Character, The Journal of Bioenergetic Research).
He wrote: ” The energies that are inside our bodies flows also outside of it in the same way in which a wave of heath comes out from an incandescent metal object”.
In the books of Carlos Castaneda auras are referred to as luminous cocoons.

If a person stays before a homogeny background of a light Celeste color, is it possible with making some manipulations for to produce a diffuse light to see a sensational phenomenon. From the periphery of his body originates a kind of dark bluish cloud, enfolding the whole body. It extends for about twenty centimeters to one meter and twenty centimeters, until it becomes not definite and fading with the surrounding atmosphere.

This energetic field blows slowly up, for one or two seconds, drifting away from the body, to model then a nearly perfect oval, it remains for about a quarter of a second, and then suddenly dissolves completely. After an interval of about one to three seconds appears it again. That pulsation repeats for about fifteen or twenty times in a minute by a normal relaxed person.
The rhythm of the pulsation seems to be independent from any other known rhythm of the body like the rhythm of respiration or the rhythm of the hard. Notwithstanding, it varies together with the level of the body’s excitement. If a person has a sentiment of rage, the pulsation of his energetic field can increase till to forty pulsations in a minute. If the body entries in vibration in consequence of deep respiration, the rhythm of his field goes up to forty-five or even fifty pulsations in a minute. In the same time, the amplitude of the energetic field extends more and his colors become brighter.

This energetic field reflects the levels of excitement and intensity of sentiment in the body. So is it possible to observe various changes of intensity and color in the peripherals of the body that corresponds to different emotions. There seems to exist a relation with the autonomous and involuntary reactions of the body. A delicate sentiment like love produces a delicate pink color. Sadness produces a dark blue color in the thoracic field. Rage results in a dark red color over the shoulders. A gold brightness can be seen over the head by sincere and direct sentiments.
A depression of the whole field is observable by suffering and pain, caused probably from the action of the sympathic suprarenal system by retrieving the blood from the surface of the body.
A more marked depression of the energetic field results by depressive persons.

Since this field reflects the energetic process that operates in the organism is it possible to use it for diagnosing malformation in the body. For example in the energetic field of a schizophrenic person are to observe characteristic alternations like interruptions of the field and changes of colors.
The energetic field is not a subjective factor like a sensation of the body; it has its objectivity as different observers refer to the same visible phenomena.
An individual in a state of an intense and pleasant excitement can feel his self-ardent, he doesn’t see his own brightness but others do, if he feels radiant is it possible to observe a radiation emanating from his body.
In fact, by conditions of right light, nearly everybody can see the energetic field. One of the easiest ways to do so is to bring your hands in a distance of about thirty centimeters before your eyes with the palms turned toward your eyes, against a background of a clear sky blue. If your hands are relaxed and your fingers in a distance of about two centimeters one from each other, can you see the brightness pulsing around your fingers.
Somebody maybe needs some time till his eyes relaxes enough to see that phenomena.
Human beings are not the only one that has an energetic field around them. The entire living organism presents that property. There is also a visible energetic field around trees.

It’s easy to become a mystic if you treat life phenomena, in this field, there’re mysteries that challenge science. One of the motives is that humans are part of this big mystery of life.

    The phases of Memory

Writing by bwerner on Wednesday, 5 of March , 2008 at 5:50 pm

Memory is the retention of information over a period of time through storage, encoding, and retrieval. For something to be considered memory, you have to take it in, store it, and then retrieve it for use in the future. Memory is a very complex things and it can let you down sometime especially when our trying to remember something, especially during an important test in your life. Also memory can also cause some confusion, especially when two people experience different events. For example, if two friends went on a trip and one said scenario A happened while the other says that scenario B happened then It could lead to lots of confusion.

I think it’s fair to say that most individuals have experienced frustrations when they can’t recall someone’s name or a place that they visit. It’s obvious that memory is not installed like data is in a computer; human memory is a little more concrete. The initial stage of memory is known as encoding, in which the information is processed for storage. When you are listening to music, or watching television you are encoding information into memory. Some data gets into memory practically effortlessly, while other requires some extensive time to get in there. How information gets stored into data is an interest in psychologist because it tends to vary from individual to individual.

When we start encoding we use selective attention which means that we focus on a specific situation while ignoring everything else. It’s like showing undivided attention to a specific factor.  Although our brain is magnificent, and is more powerful than a super computer it does has its limits, and it can’t pay attention to everything at once. Divided attention also has an impact on memory, which means that people try to pay attention to too many different things at once.  When researchers measure divided attention they have participants to try and remember a list of materials, but they are asked to perform an additional task at the same time. Participants that focus their attention on one single event as opposed to trying and remember numerous of things simultaneously perform a lot better. However simply paying attention to something does not guarantee success with remembering it. Encoding is processed in three different levels. Levels of processing is known as encoding information from shallow to deep and the deeper processing produce better results than the shallow.

Shallow level: Includes the sensory or physical characteristics of stimuli that are analyzed.  For example, we might detect some shapes of printed characters, or detect the pitch of a particular sound.
Intermediate level: The stimulus is recognized and is given a distinct label. For example, we will identify an object that drives on the road as a car.
Deepest Level:  Includes information that is processed semantically which means in terms of its meaning. When we get to the deepest level we make associations with things which mean that we are more likely to remember it in the future.

Time after time it seems that people memories improve when they make associations to stimuli that are used in deep processing as opposed to tuning into just the physical characteristics.  For example, you are more likely to remember someone face if you make some type of association with it as opposed to remembering how the people look.  You could attach a meaning to it or correlate the individual to a famous person. Likewise you could associate a famous individual with a friend of yours not is not a celebrity by any means.

Next, cognitive psychologists or the psychologists that studies the thinking process realize that there is more to memory than just deep processing. There’re a lot of layers of memory so to speak.  While were still on the topic of deep processing, the more extensive the processing, the better you will remember something. Elaboration is defined as the extensiveness of processing at any level.  Rather then just remembering a definition, you should come up with a deep concept of the word by thinking of examples that relate to the word his is a strategy that is used often of Kaplan’s Sat flashcards. On the front it has the word, and on the back it has the definition followed by a sentence that uses the definition properly.

The primarily reason that elaboration is so successful is because it helps makes something distinct in your mind.  Just think of an event that you remembered in your life. A one that I think that affects people living today is the World Trade Center event. Most people most likely remember where they were and how they first heard the news. The people that were in the event and survived most likely have a hard time forgetting about the event and can most likely remember the sounds and all of the imagery very clearly.

Speaking of seeing things clearly, imagery is a very important aspect of memory. To make memories extremely powerful it is important to use mental imagery. An example of using mental imagery is remembering where you placed your remote control once you finished watching television last night.

Some psychologists believed that using mental imagery is so powerful, because people will tend to remember images more then words. It has been proven that images can help individuals learn a foreign language. However, how intricate storage is just don’t determine how well it will get encoded. Storage refers to the ways that information stays in storage for a long period of time.  We remember some information for years, and some we forget within a minute or possibly less.

Sensory memory is a type of memory that holds information in a sensory form for an instant. It is extremely high in detail but the information is quickly loss. Think of the sounds you hear when you’re getting out of the car, or the sound of a bird singing. These are some common examples of sensory memory.

Next, short term memory is information that is usually contained in storage for 30 seconds, or less there are some other strategies used to keep it in storage longer.  Some ways that you can improve short term memory is by chunking and reversal.  We all probably have experienced with rehearsal which is the repetition of something, usually a number. If we have to remember a telephone number then an easy way to do this is to keep repeating the number. Likewise you can try and remember long numbers by chunking them.

For example, look at this number and turn away and try to repeat it. The number is 7835677876. How did you do? Don’t feel too bad if you did poorly. However, you could have done better if you’re chunked or grouped the numbers together.

For example rather than trying to remember this big blob of 7835677876, you can chunk in into 783-567-7876. Well, look at what we got it looks similar to a phone number.  This is an example of how chunking can b helpful in helping individuals remembers content.

How past experiences affect your life

Writing by bwerner on Monday, 3 of March , 2008 at 3:11 pm

Sociologist Herbert Mead developed a theory known as social behaviorism, which helped explained why past social experiences help form an individuals’ personality. Mead did not believe that personality was developed by drives or biologically, but more on terms socially.
He stated that the self only developed when people interact with one another. Without the interaction of other people an individual can’t develop a personality. An example of this is if a child is left in total isolation for a long period of time then they don’t mature both physically or mentally.

Next, social experience is crucial, and this includes the exchange of symbols. Only people attach meanings to words and symbols. If you tell a dog to sit and it obeys then you may give it a snack. However, this doesn’t mean it knows why to sit down, but it does so to get food. You can tell a dog to sit for numerous of reasons such as wanting to impress your friends, or to calm it down because it is running all over the place.
Also, Mead noted  that understanding individual intentions is critical.  This will help us to analyze how an individual will respond even before we act.  For example, when we’re driving we all anticipate what others may do because of experience. If an individual behinds you is speeding up rather quickly, then you can assume that they are about to switch lanes, or you can assume that they are in a rush and need to get somewhere quickly. Mead refers to this as taking another individual’s role.

Another important theory that is related to social behaviorism is the looking-glass self. This is basically like mirroring what we think others think of us.  If we think others view you as being “good looking,” then you will see yourself as being good looking, or if you think people think that you are fat then you will have that image of yourself. People take the roles of other people during development.

Infants have very little knowledge so they tend to mimic others. Children often have creative minds and take on roles of other significant others or people such as parents that have a special importance in their social development.  For example, children will play house in which someone will take the role of a mother while another take that of a father. As they age children will learn to take various roles and adjust to their surroundings. As we continue to age we will continue to see changes in our social life.
There are a lot of critics of Mead’s theories and some claim that he focus too much on the society in developing an individual’s behavior.
Another sociologist Erik H. Erikson stated that unlike Freud who believed that personality was pretty much set in stone in the first couple of years of an individual’s life, that personality changes in stages and occurs all the way up to death. His theory is not all that accurate as well, because people experience changes in different orders and time.

Through all of the disagreements, sociologists generally agree on this main idea, and that is that the family has the greatest impact on an individual’s socialization abilities. When an individual is an infant they have no control and usually rely on their parents and family members to help nurture them. Through family they learn several of communication techniques such as trust, culture, and beliefs.  Don’t get me wrong, not all learning comes solely from family; they can come from the environment as well because in a lot of cultures they use the environment to help raise a child. I guess the saying is true in which it takes a “village to raise a child.” It may not be surprising to you that different social classes tend to raise their children differently.
An interesting survey that happened in the United States compared what a lower class family would want in a child compared to that of an upper class family.  A lower class family would usually favor obedience and conformity while an upper class family would tend to favor creativity and good judgment (NORS, 2003). Have you ever wondered why?
Well the reason is lower class workers tend to have jobs that they must be very obedient in and are highly supervised. Subconsciously they are gearing their children towards that route and will even use physical punishment to achieve it. In upper class workers they tend to have jobs that inspire individuality and creativity which is very similar to the traits they would like to have in their children.
School also has a large effect on an individual’s personalities. If you think about it you spend a huge chunk of time each day at school. It’s also interesting to note that children tend to play with people as the same race and gender, and those boys are more physical and aggressive while girls are better behaved. Boys also tend to find abstract activities more interesting like video games and girls tend to be more artistic. The same thing follows when they get to college because boys tend to major in physical sciences, and computing while girls usually major in humanities and arts. In school is where children discover peer groups or individual that has similar interest as them.
People tend o indemnify more with their peer groups and can have conversations about things they understand like clothes, music, and style.  Peer groups are a way for individuals to escape adult supervision, and people are usually more out spoken in peer groups.  During the adolescent years people tend to identify more with their peer groups because they identify themselves as an adult and that is also a time in which parents are concerned about who their children hang around because they know that who they hang around influence their behavior deeply.
During these years the mass media heavily affects individuals as well.  Studies have showed that television have made people more passive and lessoned their creativity.  In the United States we spend the most time watching television and own the most T.V sets per household.
